Calling all families who are looking to get into the spirit of Christmas, this weekend, for three consecutive days, the Elmwood Village will come alive with the sounds of “Unsilent Night”. It’s an event that was dreamed up to bring holiday cheer to the city of good neighbors.
During the event, visitors will be entertained by a participatory performance of “Unsilent Night” – composer Phil Kline’s holiday sound sculpture (Friday evening). But that’s just the start. Throughout the weekend, a number of Elmwood businesses are rolling out Santa’s red carpet, with hot and cold beverages, yummy treats, holiday decorations, visits from Santa… there’s even a special showing of “The Variety Spectacular” at Filigrees Gallery and Boutique (also Friday).
Following is the schedule of activities for Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, December 12-14, 2014.
Events on Friday, Dec. 12 will take place between 5:00 p.m. and 9:00 p.m. and include:
· In-store receptions at local shops and boutiques from 5:00-9:00 p.m. Enjoy hot and cold beverages and holiday treats and say hello to Santa as he drops in to say ‘ho, ho, ho’.
· Participate in the first Buffalo performance of “Unsilent Night” composer Phil Kline’s holiday sound sculpture. The performance begins at Bidwell Pkwy at 6:45 p.m. and travels to Cleveland Ave before returning to the Parkway. Details on Facebook.
· Celebrate local art at Filigrees Gallery and Boutique, 1121 Elmwood Ave., during their “The Variety Spectacular” from 6:00-10:00 p.m.
· Create folded Norwegian paper stars with Ró, 732 Elmwood Ave, from 6:00-8:00 p.m.
· Owner Appreciation Days at the Lexington Cooperative Market with in-store samples and beer tastings (yes, the recent remodel made room for a craft beer section) and 10% off one purchase for owners.
Events on Saturday, Dec. 13 include:
· Photos with Santa Claus in the Elmwood Village from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Free photos with Santa will be taken outdoors on Elmwood near Breckenridge (weather permitting). Pets welcome!
· Owner Appreciation Days at the Lexington Cooperative Market continue from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Enjoy roasted chestnuts, hot cocoa and caroling.
Events on Sunday, Dec. 14 include:
· Brunch with Santa at Joe’s Deli, 534 Elmwood Ave, from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
