BRO Holiday Gift Guide | Vagabond Bowties

Day #2 in the Buffalo Rising gift giving series brings us to the bow tie. This particular bow tie series is made right here in Buffalo NY by a small operation called Vagabond.

The artisan is Michael Beam who just so happens to be curator at the Castellani Art Museum. The ties are repurposed, using materials from discarded silk ties, which are cleaned, cut and reassembled to give beautiful new life to the the material. The bow ties are $49, which is a great price for a “tie it yourself” tie. Clip-ons are not available, so it’s time to cross another life lesson off your bucket list.

“People have been eating them up,” says Stephanie Robb, proprietor of Turnstyle Designs. “They ties are popular with a range of men, from hipsters to professors.”

The ties are displayed to show how the “end result” should look when worn properly, but we all know that one of the telltale characteristics of a bow tie is the slight imperfections that can be seen when wearing the accessory. If the tie looks too perfect, then chances are that it’s a clip on.

Turnstyle Designs also carries a number of other masculine accessories, including beard oil (whatever that is), funky socks and organic shaving cream.
