Recently, the owners of Her Story Boutique started to take on the responsibility of managing Sarah Danielle women’s boutique in the Ellicott Square Building. That means that there has been a major overhaul with the clothing lines, and new directions in buying and merchandising. I spoke to Ciara Morreale who has taken on the responsibility of managing the boutique, and she told me that she has been pleasantly surprised by the amount of support that the store continues to garner from downtown shoppers.
If you think about it, The Ellicott Square building has so much potential when it comes to being a shopping destination. All it would take is a few more shops such as Sarah Danielle to turn the place into a real shopper’s paradise. According to Ciara, she is doing some brainstorming along those lines. Let’s hope that some of her creativity and enthusiasm rub off on the Central Court, where Charlie the Butcher is also located.
To start, Ciara was given permission to decorate three long-vacant store windows on Washington Street, which she hopes sends the signal to more passersby that the shop is open (and what type of merchandise it carries). Ciara opened a competition to some Buffalo students to see what they could come up with. The result was a vibrant window showcase that acts as a real eye catcher from the street.
Now it’s time that we all support the downtown retail pioneers who are looking to establish themselves. To start, why not stop into Sarah Danielle and pick up a Buffalo holiday ornament? “These have been selling like crazy,” Ciara told me. “It’s a nice little gift for someone who loves the city and the holiday season.” The ornaments are $12 each and are available in gold and silver.
Another nice little Buffalo gift is a candle from the Linwood Candle Company (see Instagram). The handcrafted candles are made locally and come in a wide range of wonderful fragrances.
From clothing to candles to Buffalo ornaments, if you’re familiar with Her Story Boutique on Elmwood Avenue, then you know that there are plenty of great finds at this Downtown women’s shop.
