What would the holidays be without Holiday Live at Larkin? The seasonal event is the perfect reason to bring friends and family together to enjoy the spirit of Buffalo and this special time of year. In fact, Larkin Square was created specifically for these types of get-togethers.
“Holiday Live at Larkin has been such a fun welcoming of wintertime in Buffalo, and we’re excited to add to the atmosphere this year,” said Larkin Square Director of Fun Leslie Zemsky. “Not only have we added food trucks to our festivities, but there’s now more to do in Larkinville, and the Hydraulic Hearth Restaurant and Brewery will become the center of attention after the concert in the square.”
That’s right, the party is going to get started at Larkin Square, with food trucks, holiday granola, beer and wine, and a featured Robot Holiday album “Between the Snowflakes” played live as part of a two-hour performance on the heated boardwalk. Most of the songs on this year’s Robot Holiday album are inspired by stories written by Canisius College creative writing students, under the direction of Dr. Janet McNally. The album will be for sale at the event, and fans can also purchase the songs online at www.robotholiday.bandcamp.com.
After the event at Larkin Square wraps up, the festivities on the opposite side of the square will just be getting started. As part of a Prohibition Repeal Day celebration, marking the 81st anniversary of the bringing booze back to Buffalo, the Hydraulic Hearth Restaurant and Brewery will be kicking the party into high gear. Community Beer Works, Flying Bison Brewing Company, and Buffalo Distilling Company, all new “residents” of the Larkin District, will be participating in a ceremonial barrel procession.
It is interesting to note that The Larkin Terminal Warehouse (now known as the Larkin at Exchange Building) played an important role in the repeal of Prohibition. The building was where 10,000 cases of imported whiskey and gin were stored, before being delivered throughout the city once the ban was lifted. The building was the city’s only bonded warehouse. Now that same district will host a celebration marking the occasion 81 years later.
