It’s time to participate in one of the most inventive Thanksgiving donation opportunities imaginable. Instead of simply bringing a can of food to a food pantry, GObike Buffalo is hosting its third annual Cranksgiving event, which is geared towards participants who want to get out and ride, scavenge for food, and then donate to those who are less fortunate. The premise is simple. Cyclists hit the road with a $10-$15 grocery list, scavenge for food at local markets, and then celebrate the victory.
In order to participate, all you need is a bag, a bike, a helmet, a lock, and a few bucks. All of the booty (the food) will then be donated to Food not Bombs. This is not a race… it is simply a chance to bike for a good cause. Families are welcome to participate, as well as individuals. Teams are limited to four people.
After completing the mission, the group returns to GObike Buffalo headquarters for an after party, and to assess the bounty. The party is free for Cranksgiving participants, but a $5 donation (or 4 non perishable food items) is asked for those who simply choose to attend the party.
