Joe Dash has some ideas for the former Budwey’s Supermarket at 416 Kenmore Avenue and it’s not what neighbors had hoped for or expected. Joe Dash is proposing to turn the vacant building into a storage facility and construct seven self-storage buildings in the parking lot.
Frank Budwey sold his three markets in 2013 and Dash’s Markets had talked about closing its Hertel Avenue location and undertaking a $2.5 million remodeling in a move to Kenmore Avenue. That move is off.
Dash tells WIVB:
Joe Dash, the owner of Dash Markets, said due to construction on Kenmore Avenue and low demand for a supermarket, it’s not financially viable to have a grocery store there in the future. “We need about 2,500 to 3,000 visits a day to survive in a store that size,” Dash said.
Dash said he put the property up for sale in May and didn’t get one offer to purchase or lease a retail or grocery store.
The proposed storage facility will need approvals from the Buffalo Planning Board.
