“Chandni” An Indian Dance Collaborative showcase

Following is a short interview with Gaitrie Devi, in regards to an upcoming Bollywood dance performance at Ujima Theater…

What is the dance? Who are your partners?

On Saturday, December 13th the Buffalo community will experience a dance showcase like never before. “Chandni” -an Indian Dance Collaborative will bring Indian dance to the community. With that there will be local artists also collaborating with Devi Bollywood Dance. Mackenzie Lynch a ballet/contemporary Dance, Michelle Joy a Tribal Fusion Belly Dancer and Ravi Padmanabha a multi instrumentalists will be playing the Sitar.

What led to the performance?

Buffalo has yet to experience Bollywood, they have yet to experience the foundations and roots of Indian dance. What we see in the movies and on television are great forms of extreme entertainment. But there is a true Art to Indian dance and we want to expose and showcase the intricate and technical choreography to everyone.

What people can expect?

Audiences can expect the beautiful sounds of the Bollywood beats while incorporating elements from Bharata Natyam, Kathak, Bollywood to Modern, Contemporary, Tribal Fusion Belly dance and live Sitar. Guided by the beauty and richness of the Indian culture, the performers will take audiences through a series of breath taking, high-energy and colorful dance enactments.
