Thursday, October 9th marks the fourth annual Museums by Moonlight event, taking place at multiple institutions across Buffalo. From 5:30 until 9:30, a $25 admission ticket ($35 after October 6th) grants patrons access to the Darwin Martin House, Buffalo Museum of Science, Albright-Knox Art Gallery, Burchfield-Penney Art Center, Richardson Olmsted Complex, Buffalo History Museum, and Forest Avenue Resource Center. Additionally, everyone who purchases a Museums by Moonlight ticket is entitled to a $7 admission into the Mummies of the World exhibit at the Buffalo Museum of Science, normally $22.
Event features include an exhibit at the Albright-Knox of works by Lucas Samaras, containing his famous Mirrored Room, and a huge sculpture by local artist collective Trans Empire Canal Corporation of a full-scale canal barge installed at the Burchfield Penney. At the Richardson Olmsted Complex, you can plan to spend about 30 minutes to an hour on an informal, self-guided tour of the first floor of the Towers Building and an adjacent former patient building. Trained docents will be on hand to discuss the past, present, and future of the site.
Tickets can be purchased here with proceeds benefitting all participating institutions, as well as organizers Preservation Buffalo Niagara.
