Costumes in Character

When it comes to Halloween, there are a lot of different roads to travel. There are the ‘all out party’ events, or the ‘stay at home and answer your door for trick-or-treaters’ routine. But there’s another option for those who don’t care to do either of those things.

On Thursday October 30th, 2014, from 6:00-8:30pm at the Marquis Ballroom at The Hotel @ The Lafayette, Literacy New York Buffalo-Niagara (formerly Literacy Volunteers of Buffalo & Erie County and Literacy Volunteers of Niagara County) will be hosting Cocktails in Character 2014.

Attendees are encouraged to come dressed as their favorite book character, while enjoying a night of live entertainment, hors d’oeuvres, carving and pasta stations, basket raffles and auctions, all benefitting adult and children’s literacy programming right here in Buffalo. There’s a costume contest to boot, so get thinking about a character from your favorite novel, and feel good knowing that you are supporting a worthy cause. $50 tickets – cash bar. Special Guest, WBFO’s Eileen Buckley, will be on-hand at the event.

A VIP reception will be held from 6-7pm in the Crystal Ballroom. VIP tix are $100 and include passed hors d’oeuvres, open bar, live entertainment, and tours of the Lafayette Hotel.

Past attendees have come as F. Scott Fitzgerald’s Jay Gatsby and Daisy Buchanan, Lewis Carroll’s Alice and the Mad Hatter, Charles Perrault’s Little Red Riding Hood and J. K. Rowling’s Harry Potter. Costume attire is merely suggested and not mandatory.
