Having access to screen printing and embroidery machines can be a lot of fun. It can also be an excellent business venture for those who care to create clothing that readily trends. After graduating from Fordham University this past spring, Meg Sullivan decided that she wanted to come back to Buffalo to work at her father’s embroidery company, EmbroidMe Buffalo (see here). Upon being given the keys to the operation, Meg decided that she wanted to start experimenting with her own designs, which eventually led to a line of clothing called BBMILKTEES™ (stands for Blonde Buffalo Milk Tees).
In a world where Buffalo t-shirts are generally masculine in flavor, Meg appears to have hit a sweet spot in the local (and even national) clothing industry. In fact, her “Take Your Top Off!” Barbie t-shirt design (nothing like architect Barbie mind you), gained recognition by Cosmopolitan Magazine’s “Fun Fearless Life” website. The added momentum has been creating a stir at the shop, which is located on Lafayette Square in Downtown Buffalo. Instagram photos have been coming in featuring loyal customers wearing the designs, and BBMILKTEES™ has been running its own fair share of marketing promotions coinciding with the blitz of fanfare.
Not all of the BBMILKTEES™ products revolve around Buffalo (or t-shirts for that matter), but they do reflect a Buffalo lifestyle that is changing day to day. Coming from a guy’s point of view, I love the look of this brand and can’t wait to see some gals around town wearing the fun-loving clothing. The fact that the styles are being dreamed up and delivered in Downtown Buffalo is an added bonus. The lifestyle clothing line is an eye-catcher and is a nice diversion from the more masculine designs that have flooded the market over the years.
Ultimately Meg will be heading off to law school, but hopefully she will continue to create these cheeky designs for Buffalo gals (and guys) who are looking for something a bit different. “We are having a lot of fun with these designs. The tees are super soft, come in contemporary cuts for both women and men, and feature our original designs, which are based on both popular and street culture,” says Sullivan.
