Work is well underway for construction of the new lodge at River Fest Park. Due to budgetary constraints, the lodge has been reduced in size, from two stories to one story (lead image).
River Fest Park was also the project that led the way for other investments along Ohio Street, including the work that is currently underway to convert the street into a boulevard (see here).
Once constructed, the lodge will become a destination for festivals, events, banquets, parties, community and waterfront endeavors, and a shelter for times of inclement weather (among other uses). The building joins an existing band shell where concerts take place throughout the course of the summer. There is also a significant dock and boardwalk, as all as gardens, wayfinding and historic information signage, park benches and a pergola.
Soon this waterfront amenity will be connected by bike lanes, and will some day be complemented by the Erie Freight House residence project (see here).
Below was the original rendering of the lodge, before it was reduced in size.
