As Buffalonians continue to clean up after years of decline, there is another small part of the globe that is also feeling the energy that we’re throwing off.
According to our friends at El Buen Amigo in Allentown, Buffalo fever has spread to El Sauce, Nicaragua, where (donning Buffalo Bills shirts), the young people have been busy cleaning up their favorite swimming hole that has been plagued with litter and debris.
The young people of the village, ranging from 11 to 15 years of age, refer to their newly founded club as “Los Pequeños Búfalos de El Sauce” (the little Buffalos of El Sauce). Not only have they cleaned up their swimming hole, the youngsters are also working on soil improvements and agricultural projects (sound familiar?).
If you are wondering what the town’s connection to Buffalo is, then look no further than El Buen Amigo. The “little buffalos” have been busy making bracelets that are for sale at the Allentown shop, with proceeds from the sales going towards their Buffalo-inspired projects more than 3000 miles away. According to the folks at El Buen Amigo, “The kids speak Spanish and love Buffalo!”
For years, El Buen Amigo (The Good Friend) had been in the business of supporting Latin American Communities through sales of fair trade imported goods. “We are a volunteer and intern operated non-profit organization, and all of the profits earned from our store and outreach events are reinvested in the artist collectives of of Central and South America, as well as the local Buffalo community.”
