A poetry parade in Italy, a Solidarity Reading in Uganda, Lyrical Lunacy in Bangkok, and a nine hour poetry/arts marathon in Buffalo’s abandoned grain silos: on Saturday, September 27th poets and artists from all around the world will gather to promote social, environmental, and political change as part of 2014’s 100,000 Poets and Artists for Change global event.
Hosted by the Just Buffalo Literary Center, this is the second year that Buffalo’s rendition of the event has taken place at the amazing Silo City (100 Childs St.). With stages tucked inside silos and perched on the edge of the Buffalo River, attendees can look forward to more than 125 poets, live musical performances, projection art, and a selection of local food and beverage trucks.
The heart of the event will be a marathon of poetry readings featuring a range of poets from around Buffalo and the surrounding area. Emerging poets will read beside established poets, slam poets will read beside poets of the page, and grade school children will read beside professors. (See www.justbuffalo.org for full reading schedule.)
In addition, musical performances by Motel Beds, Dan Harper & The Magic Show, Ahavaraba, Helen, Alassane Sarr & N’Dias, and Steve Baczkowski will resound through the silos’ cavernous spaces.
Projection art by Squeaky Wheel and TECHNE will be on display to add to the silos’ breathtaking ambiance and, to keep event-goers fueled, food trucks (Abyssinian Ethiopian Cuisine, Frank Gourmet Hot Dogs, and Gelato Gypsy) and a beer truck will be on site.
Tying the event together will be a unification of purpose: taking a moment to reflect on the change we want to see in our ever-complicated world.
Free and open to the public.
Saturday, September 27 from noon to 9:00 pm @ Silo City (100 Childs St.)
