It’s rare that a young person has the opportunity to interact with the legal community in ways that are beneficial early on. For most young kids, the legal word is completely out of touch, and their only objective is to stay far, far away from it.
Unfortunately, there are aspects of the legal world/system that can actually benefit Buffalo youth, and that’s the objective that the Minority Bar Association (MBA) is setting out to demonstrate with a 5K run that it is organizing on Saturday, October 4, 2104.
“This is the first year for the race,” attorney Delia Cadle told me. “With the proceeds of the race, the MBA wishes to enhance its community involvement, and promote mentorship opportunities with disadvantaged youth. We usually form bonds with college and law students, but we wish to broaden our mentor demographic to include a younger group of children. We want to introduce them to the positive side of the legal field, and form a partnership with the Boys & Girls Clubs. The race is taking place at Larkin Square, which is only a few blocks from the Boys & Girls Clubs Seneca Babcock Clubhouse. Jennifer Metzger Kimura is the Race Director. The race is listed on Score-This.com and buffalorunners.com. It is USATF sanctioned and certified course.”
