A few months ago a television production team made a trip Greater Buffalo to film the LT1 Corvette engine (PDF) as it was being built. That segment will be included in the overall production of the Chevrolet Corvette Stingray, as it is aired in coming days. “As the sole provider of the LT1, 450 HP standard Corvette engine, members of UAW Local 774 are really proud to show the public a little bit of what it takes to build this award winning engine,” said Shop Chairman Bob Coleman. “We have a highly trained workforce and viewers will see how complicated it is and the technology required to build an engine.”
“We’ve had a lot of national media attention in newspapers, magazines and on internet sites since we started building the Corvette engine,” said Plant Manager Steve Finch, “but this is the first time we’ve been on a nationally televised TV program. I love to watch the show “How It’s Made”. I think this is a great opportunity to highlight an example of world class advanced manufacturing done right here in Western New York, and to showcase the great talent and skill possessed by the women and men of GM Tonawanda Engine. Remember . . . “We Make ‘em Go!””
