On Saturday, September 13 from noon to 4pm, The Foundry will be hosting a new twist on their monthly Second Saturday event.
The Foundry’s new Fix It Lab series will launch this weekend, allowing those attending the events to have a more interactive experience. Guests are invited to bring in any broken wooden objects from their homes that need to be fixed, such as furniture, and there will be consultants on hand to teach them what the problem is and how it can be mended. Simple fixes can be made right there at the event, but more major work will not be done directly at Second Saturday.
Follow up contact information will be given out to those needing help, and appointments can be made for repairs. The theme for next month’s event is yet to be determined, but this “Fix It Lab” will be a regular part of Second Saturdays going forward. Materials in the series will include wood, metal, upholstery, and more.
There will also be a kid-friendly wood building project where children will be provided with their own workspace to participate in building their own wooden musical instruments, such as rain sticks. The usual vendors and skill demonstrators will be at the event as well, with a musical performance by Smooth Session.
Lastly, the crew at The Foundry is working on a public art project that Second Saturday guests are invited to participate in creating. They have designed a large mural for their front wall area outside the building, and it will include several components composed of different materials. The wood elements will be added in at this month’s event. Eventually glass and metal will also be incorporated to complete the project.
Second Saturdays run from noon to 4 pm at The Foundry, located at 298 Northampton Street. For more information, visit their Facebook event page.
