Watching this video, I couldn’t help but wonder when the time will come for the DL&W Terminal to be activated at the Buffalo River. This is a no-brainer, and one that would be a huge win for the waterfront. A friend of mine recently came up with a great idea that would see the now demolished concourse station rebuilt as a glass structure that would mimic the shape of the old building. A modern twist on a historic loss. The structure could be used for public gatherings, especially if the giant terminal was to be converted to a market-style space. I thought that this was a brilliant idea, considering everything that is happening at Canalside. Then, connect the terminal to the First Niagara Center (over the street), and that would solve the ADA compliance issue. It would also allow visitors to the arena to pull right up inside the terminal, explore the offerings, and then walk into the arena without being exposed to inclement weather. A concept along these lines could be a win-win for the arena and the DL&W.
