Each year The United Way rallies volunteers to take to the streets of Greater Buffalo for a giant community building effort. This year that day of service is set for August 20.
On that day, the area’s largest community service event will create a network of thousands of people with one common goal: to assist 129 non-profit organizations in chores that range from painting to mailing to serving lunch.
Most of what the community will see will be the outdoor beautification projects, but that’s just the tip of the iceberg. All totaled, the volunteer group is comprised of over 3500 volunteers from 145 businesses and organizations.
The idea behind the Day of Caring is to allow the 129 non-profits to concentrate on their missions, rather than be burdened by the arduous upkeep of their facilities. At the same time, the event is a great way for volunteers to get their hands dirty, while knowing that they are helping myriad instrumental causes. In the end, it’s all about strengthening the community.
