The first and last time that I walked through the doors of Sugar City’s new venue on Niagara Street, I thought to myself, “Now that’s a lot of work that looks like it’ll never get done.”
That’s because the place looked like it had been hit with a bombshell… blown out and blown up. For years the building had been sitting empty, braving the elements without heat, electric, water, etc. When I asked Sugar City director Aimee Buyea what she thought of the giant mess, she admitted that it was a bigger project than she anticipated… but here we are only a few short weeks later and Sugar City is announcing its grand opening date. How about that for some quick DIY action!
On Friday, August 15, 2014, from 6:00pm – 2:00am, Sugar City (an alt community art space) will be hosting a two-part opening party for its sugar citizens that goes down like this:
