Shot on the outskirts of Buffalo, at a bed and breakfast in Orchard Park, recording artist Chae Hawk‘s latest music video is a black and white production which writer/director Alex Amoling says gives the final result an almost timeless feel. Dinner Plates is the third part of a five part series called Dance Party for the Heavy Hearted (Progressive Rap Cinema). Also see Chin Ups and Remember This Night.
In Dinner Plates, things get a little hairy as Chae ends up getting knifed and buried, but in true “Hawk” fashion comes back to the living to deliver some heartfelt romance and passionate revenge (although the timeline is intentionally left blurry).
“We toured it in Brooklyn, DC, and of course Buffalo,” says Hawk. “The tour made me realize and appreciate the power of my content from outside the location it is made. It allowed me to understand the direction I must continue to go. I gotta knack for storytelling thru film. Progressive Rap Cinema I am.
“As for the song Dinner Plates and the short film, sometimes something beautiful can be very threatening and relationships can get scary. True story. The [filming] location conceived the song.
“And passing the song to Alex, Dinner Plates just so happened to be his least favorite song on the album (chin ups being his favorite). I knew he would be the best to bring out something that would give it a whole other depth and perspective.”
