Each year Music is Art organizes “Battle of the High School Bands” so that Buffalo’s musically talented youth get the chance to play, compete, and gain recognition for their efforts. This year’s competition is taking place at Iron Works in the Cobblestone District. “The Music is Art Battle of the Bands was originally conceived to bring bands and musicians outside of the typical educational channels together through their academic settings, bringing the fringe a bit closer to the traditional educators” said Robby Takac, Music is Art founder and president.
For ten years running, ten bands have made it to the top of the heat, playing for fifteen minutes in front of a panel of judges. Last year’s winning band was Kill the Clock (FB). The band will be playing at this year’s competition.
“We are very excited about the diversity of this year’s finalists” said Music is Art executive director, Tracy Shattuck, “it’s going to be a great show and the students are pumped to perform.”
