During the recent City of Night event, held at Silo City, a number of artists came together to create an impressive collage. The theme of the collage was art, history, culture and sustainability – many of the same themes that we see time and time again along the Buffalo River.
During the event, the artists set up an interactive art installation, and asked the public to get involved by pasting and stapling various Buffalo related clippings and cards to the mural. The end result was a large collage that surrounded an internal light box (see lead image). The light box was designed by WNY Artist Group artists Patti Harris and Joyce Hill. The outer artistic elements, surrounding the light box paid tribute to Buffalo and many of its incredible assets. Over 500 people participated in assembling the collage, ranging in age from 3 to 80.
The exercise was intended to get the community involved with the Buffalo spirit. It was also intended to shine a light on the WNY Artists group and its gallery.
The collage can now be viewed at Artists Group Gallery, One Linwood Avenue through August 8, 2014. If you participated in creating the collage, or are interested in seeing the final assemblage, visit the gallery during the following times:
The collage can be viewed at Artists Group Gallery, One Linwood Ave, Buffalo, NY from July 3 to August 8, 2014. Summer gallery hours are Wed/Thurs: 11-5, Friday 11-4 and Saturday 11-2. The Western New York Artists Group is a not for profit 501 (c)(3) organization.
