TechNoir Events presents their third annual Alternative Garage Sale this Sunday from 11 a.m until 6 p.m at Dreamland Art Gallery. The sale caters to those looking for the dark or unusual-though that doesn’t necessarily mean everything is too far out, the vendors cover a lot of different ground.
“Even though most of the items at the event belong to a general theme of dark or alternative you can pretty much find something for everyone…horror fans, cosplayers, role players, goth/industrial, punk, artists, hipsters. Anything that wouldn’t be considered too mainstream will be available,” said Amy Nekrotique, TechNoir organizer.
Before organizing Buffalo’s Alternative Garage Sale Nekrotique vended at Vertex Alternative Garage Sale in Rochester and was astounded by the demand for the niche items.
“In a day and age when people just don’t really have the money to spend on expensive household items or clothes, this sort of event offered a place for people to find these kinds of items for great prices. Everyone has stuff to get rid of that they either don’t like, were gifted, but already had, or just don’t use anymore. Why not try to sell these items in a flea market type of setting, or possibly trade these items for something you DO want or need?,” she said.
In many cases finding something wonderful at this sale could help you avoid the hassle of online ordering and all the stressors of sizing and shipping that go with it. And since many items being sold are used you could get a deep discount on a special item of clothing or art you might only use on special occasions or one that you would use everyday.
For example, as a practical person I don’t hang out in corsets, but about once a month I think “I wish I had a corset for this outfit.”
This year the sale will be held at Dreamland Art Studios, 387 Franklin Street, during the Allentown Art Festival on Sunday.
The move from Broadway Joe’s on Main Street to downtown helps make it easier for attendees to get there and increases the chances that festival goers will wander in and discover something a little different.
So in addition to the Allentown Art Festival and the Allen West Festival take a swing through Dreamlands art space and check out something a little different this year. Between those three events it’s going to hard to go home empty handed this weekend.
