In three years time, The Peddler flea market has become a staple of Elmwood life. With the closing of The Walden Flea, this little urban market has managed to pick up the slack by creating a fun-filled corner that was once simply an empty parking lot.
This past Saturday we met visitors from Toronto who came to Buffalo specifically to attend the market (and then enjoy the rest of the city afterwards). We also managed to attract a bunch of musicians who hung around for the better part of the day. This might not be the biggest flea market to ever assemble, but it has a lot of heart. There’s something about a flea market that draws in just about every person that walks by – it’s hard to resist the buzz that it generates despite its humble size.
Young and old, hipsters to hippies, with varying appetites for oddities, The Peddler at Parish Commons (corner of Elmwood and West Ferry), has gained a lot of traction since we first launched the experiment in 2012.
If you happened to pass by yesterday, or the Saturday before that, you would have witnessed a vibrant slice of life that brings together a faction of the community looking to pick up some one-of-a-kind finds, socialize with their neighbors, and simply enjoy the Elmwood scene that continues to get better and better.
