Big Ditch Brewing is on track to begin brewing next month and opening to the public in August. Big Ditch is leasing space at 55 E. Huron Street in a building owned by Iskalo Development Corp. Brewing equipment recently installed includes a 20 barrel (620 gallon) brewhouse and five 40 barrel (1,240 gallon) stainless steel fermenters that will be visible through new windows being added to the Huron Street side of the building (pictured here). Besides the brewing operation, the space will include a tasting room and an area for retail sales.
Big Ditch Brewing Company was founded by Matt Kahn, Corey Catalano and Wes Froebel. The brewery name pays homage to the Erie Canal which was nicknamed “Big Ditch” during its early construction.
All of the beer will be brewed on site and the space will have an area devoted to tastings and retail sales. The bunker-like building is getting a nice makeover including ground floor windows, entrance canopies, rooftop signage, and roll-up doors in the tasting area.
