So you think that you’ve “got game” when it comes to chess? You think that you can hold your own against some of this city’s best and brightest? If so, you’re in luck because the Buffalo & Erie County Public Library in partnership with Archangel 8 Chess Academy and Chess Master/Coach Michael McDuffie, are expecting chess players just like you to show up and show ’em what you got! Similar to last year, the plan is to offer three summer dates for free outdoor Chess at the downtown Central Library, 1 Lafayette Square, Buffalo. The matches are open to all ages and abilities and take place outdoors at the Library’s Washington Street main entrance off Lafayette Square, weather permitting. The 2014 dates are as follows:
Thursday, June 26
Thursday, July 24
Thursday, August 28
Games take place from 12 noon to 1:30 pm. Reservations are not required; however, USCF members wishing to compete are urged to pre-register at Knightsof64@yahoo.com.
The outdoor chess sessions might be unique, but the game of chess is played at The Central Library on an ongoing basis. There are free Chess Open Houses held at the Library’s Fables Café (September through May on each month’s last Sunday from 12 noon to 4:30 pm). These sessions are excellent opportunities to hone skills, meet local players, and visit Downtown Buffalo. You can check out the Library’s website for further details: www.BuffaloLib.org.
