I suppose that when there’s an onslaught of food trucks in a city, and a number of creative types who want to figure out the best way to track them, more than one dedicated site will emerge.
Today I learned of another food truck tracking website and phone app that has launched in Buffalo. It’s called StreetMeat, and Co-Founder Benjamin Sherman tells me that the grand plans are to start locally, but hit the road running in short order. “After just being on the market for about three days now we’ve already gained a ton of traction,” Benjamin tells me. “The app is easy to follow, and offers walk/bike/drive directions to any of the food trucks. Street Meat offers real time food truck tracking – a user can open up the app at any time and get the current location of all active food trucks in the Buffalo area. The app will also show the time the trucks will be leaving their locations. For menus, it’s as easy as clicking on the links for full menus and prices.”
So what make Street Meat different from its competitors? According to the team, the framework that StreetMeat was built on allows trucks in other cities to sign up and use the app after a quick screening process. That means that while Buffalo is the first city on the StreetMeat map, other cities are anticipated to follow suit sooner rather than later. These guys feel that they can get widespread traction, which is the end goal. In the meantime, it’s all about the usability. “Some features we’re working on currently are a user rating and favorites system, as well as improvements on the backend and analytics for food truck owners to inspire the continuity of keeping StreetMeat populated,” Benjamin added. “[As for menus], we allow all food trucks to enter their own menu information. We understand that menus often change day to day – the trucks will be able to make these changes with a few swipes from any phone/laptop/computer. StreetMeat alerts users that the trucks are open and ready for service.”
In the world of food trucks, there are now plenty of options to track your favorites. Moving forward, all I can say is, may the best food truck tracking team win!
