While taking a stroll at the Outer Harbor earlier today, we came across a merry-go-round in a grassy area that is, for the most part, a relatively unused plot of land other than for the occasional dog-walkers, a few sun gods and goddesses, and a handful of kite flyers. The merry-go-round looked a bit out of place considering that there were no other attractions nearby, but at the same time it was great to see an attempt being made to test out a completely different type of interactive feature.
The sight of the merry-go-round brought me back to the days when there was an effort underway to construct a solar carousel at the Inner Harbor (I hope that there are still people pushing for this). Hopefully this type of amenity will help to show the need for such a fun-loving project that would elevate the experience from merely child’s folly to a city-wide point of pride.
No matter how you look at it, there were a number of children enjoying the free rides today. I am told that the merry-go-round will be at the Outer Harbor on a daily basis throughout the summer. The ride is operated by an attendant whenever in operation.
