Connect Market

This coming Saturday marks the first time that the Horsefeathers Building on the city’s West Side will host a summer farmers’ market. Normally after the Winter Market wraps up, and heads back outside to Bidwell Parkway (also this Saturday), there is no effort to maintain the farmers’ market scene on Connecticut Street. This summer that’s going to change. Instead of slowing things down, Connect Market plans on ramping things up. With the advent of the farm to table movement, there are plenty of market sellers that can’t get space in desired Saturday farmers’ markets. So the thought was, to bring them onboard with Connect Market, thus creating a different type of Saturday market destination in the city during the warmer months.

On Saturday, May 10, a number of market sellers will come together as Connect Market, to join the established businesses within the building (such as Martin Cooks, The Pasta Peddler, Blackbird Sweets, Jolie’s Chinese, Chow Chocolat, MC Take Home, and Michelle’s Caribbean Cuisine).

Market sellers include Golden Hour Farm (flowers, herbs, greens, etc.), Public Espresso and Coffee, Alpine Made (goat’s milk products), McCarthy’s Brewery (from the old First Ward), Biscotti for Everybotti, Camie’s Candies, Buffalo Cookie Company, Boston Valley Gourmet Mushrooms, and a variety of others to be announced. The plan is to capitalize on the large crowd that is already attracted to the market during the off-season. Let’s see what a summer market can do on the West Side!

Connect Market will run from 10am to 2pm – a four hour window sandwiched between standard building hours (the permanent market stalls operate all day). Connect Market is still looking for a couple more food-specific sellers to round out the Saturday offerings. If you have a food-related offering and would like to see if it’s a good fit, please send an email to The market is looking for representation from urban farmers as well.
