Anyone who has paid a visit to Canalside this season may have noticed that Clinton’s Dish has expanded its new custom branded community tables and patio seating. At the same time Chef Kate Elliott has been adding her own twists to the menu in order to take it from a food shack to a place where people can get some gourmet options. “We are really trying to improve food choices available on the waterfront,” Kate told me. “While we do have a few of the predictable choices; hot dog, sausage, fries. We also have some vegetarian options like curried lentil fritters with pickled veggies, a tofu bahn mi, sweet potato fries. Also the burger we are serving is an 8oz Pat LaFreida blend of short rib and sirloin and a fun twist on the Beef on Weck.”
It was good to see so much activity at Clinton’s Dish this past weekend. Not only was the restaurant lively with customers, we ran into a handful of people who were talking about the new food options that were available. The consensus was that the offerings were much better than in previous years. Plus, the new seating almost looked like a slice out of the Bryant Park page (if you squinted just a bit). “We are still working out some of the kinks and learning the space and the crowd,” Kate reminded me. “But we had a great Memorial Day Weekend, with huge crowds and a great response. By mid June we will start breakfast service and our beer/wine garden will be open. We have six taps and will have local craft beers available from 12-8pm daily.”
