First up is Street Soccer Buffalo 2014, running 8am-5pm on Saturday, 6/7 at Front Park. This annual 4 versus 4 tournament, in its second year, benefits Westside International Soccer and Concerned Ecumenical Ministry —two local organizations doing great work for Buffalo’s refugee community.
Street Soccer Buffalo is the area’s only ‘street’ tournament—played on pavement. Soccer played in the streets/on pavement is a common sight around the world, but not in the US. Want to play? Registration will remain open until 5/24. Just go to Buffalo Soccer Council. Want to be a sponsor? Contact Cathy Rieley-Goddard at cembuffalo@gmail.com.
B Team Buffalo, a non-profit organization led by young professionals dedicated to promoting a lasting sense of civic pride in the Greater Buffalo area, is helping to coordinate the event. The B Team creates high-impact signature projects and assists other organizations with the development and execution of volunteer-driven events. They aim to inspire community engagement that translates into ongoing change. Find out more about B Team Buffalo.
On Sunday, 6/8 at 2pm, head over to the Demske Sports Complex at Canisius to see FC Buffalo take on Detroit City FC. This looks to be a very memorable year for FC Buffalo. They opened the season by defeating their hated rivals, the Erie Admirals, by a 4-2 score—in Erie, no less. This was Buffalo’s first ever win at Erie in the five-year history of the rivalry.
