“Let me tell you what I think of bicycling. I think it has done more to emancipate women than anything else in the world. It gives women a feeling of freedom and self-reliance. I stand and rejoice every time I see a woman ride by on a wheel…the picture of free, untrammeled womanhood.” – Susan B. Anthony
In honor of Bike Month in May, GO Bike Buffalo has put together a schedule chock full of cycling events that will keep every cyclist under the sun busy for 31 days and beyond. One of the many highlights of the two-wheel peddling affair is the an international bike ride that is considered a ‘socially-driven grass-roots celebration of women on bikes’. After all, why should guys have all of the fun, when it was the bike that first delivered the power of free roaming mobility to women suffragettes.
The CycloFemme group ride will leave the GO Bike shop (98 Colvin Ave) on Mother’s Day, and meander down the Jesse Kriegel path that runs along the Scajaquada Creek. A social gathering at Squaw Island will ensue. Cyclists are encouraged to bring picnics along with them, or anything else that might add interest to the afternoon. After the outing, cyclists are invited to attend an open House at the Go Bike shop (interested parties will ride together after the picnic).
The CycloFemme ride (Global Women’s Cycling Day) is part of an international movement, with 180 cities, 41 states and 19 countries participating in 2014.
