The Buffalo Area Dart League (BADL) is hosting an upcoming fundraising event at Pearl Street Grill and Brewery. Hmmmm…. Let’s back up a moment. I bet that there are a lot of people out there who were not even aware that Buffalo even had a dart league. So let’s start there.
Buffalo has a dart league that gathers together to play around the Greater Buffalo area. The league is Buffalo’s only steel tipped dart league, so no plastic tipped pansy darts are allowed. BADL is also the region’s oldest competitive dart league, and with the advent of social media the sport has been growing in members as of late. The group has a website and a Facebook page.
According to a recent BADL announcement, on June 27, 28, and 29, 2014, “Thirteen different records will be challenged with the marquee event being a challenge of the World Record in Marathon Dart Playing by a Doubles Team.” That’s big news for the local dart community. It’s also welcome news for the fight against cystic fibrosis, as proceeds are earmarked to benefit the Great Strides Event, presented by the Western New York Chapter of The Cystic Fibrosis Foundation.
“The Event will start early in the morning on Friday the 27th, when the marathon teams will start,” wrote Aaron Broome (President), Owen Stuart, Lance Friedman and Sean Stuart of BADL. “The current record, according to Guinness, is just over forty-one (41) hours. The goal is to push that to forty-eight (48) hours or more! Other Records will be challenged during the day on Friday and Saturday. Anyone can take part by going to the League website, and registering for the Record that they wish to challenge. In addition, there will be live music both Friday and Saturday as well as the First Annual Buffalo Open Blind Draw Steel-Tip Tournament. The Tournament will be on Saturday and has a large, guaranteed purse. Pre-registration is a must as there are a limited number of participants allowed.”
