Another Monday, another church purchased. The shuttered St. John the Evangelist Roman Catholic Church in South Buffalo has a new owner. Stephen W. DeFalco purchased the church located at 2315 Seneca Street today for $135,000. A Google search did not dig up any information on the buyer. Last Monday, Dannis Maher purchased the Immaculate Conception Church at S. Elmwood and Edward Streets for $100,000 less.
The circa-1930, 13,622 sq.ft church seats 400 and the property includes an adjacent 5,256 sq.ft rectory on a lot measuring approximately .64 acres. The church, located adjacent to Cazenovia Park, was designed by Carl Schmill and Sons. It was closed in 2009 by the Catholic Diocese.
