One local designer to watch out for is, Nneka Gigi the creator of GG’s Closet of Wearable Art. This line carries a variety of fun, creative, one of a kind outfits and accessories of art. These unique styles are available for guys and girls in the teenage to 30-something age range.
This 20-ish year old designer started creating pieces, mostly for herself, at an early age because she realized that she could put together a look that would reflect who she was. She began rocking out in outfits and jewelry nobody had ever seen before (definitely her own style), but it wasn’t until 2012 that she started creating for others (after family and friends talked her into it). And, what a great idea that was. Today her work can been seen from Buffalo to NYC’s SoHo and beyond. Her reputation has grown in the industry in a relatively short period of time.
GG’s Closet of Wearable Art is for creative guys and girls who like to sport apparel that can’t be found in any department store. According to the designer, the items are conversation pieces – something that says ‘this is me’. Nneka finds inspiration for her works in life, family and friends, and each creation comes from myriad experiences that tell those stories through fashion.
This past Saturday, Nneka had a few models step outside in the Theatre District to show off her latest creations, now available on her website. Hopefully it won’t be long before we start to see outfits from this young Buffalo designer in local shops, and at one of the many fashion shows.
