C&S Companies to Anchor Planing Mill Project

TM Montante Development has made it official: C&S Companies has agreed to relocate its Buffalo office to The Planing Mill, 141 Elm Street, thus doubling the size of the firm’s work space.  C&S, an engineering, planning and construction services firm, plans to move into the Class A office space next month from nearby 90 Broadway.

The historic building is the former site of the E.M. Hager & Sons Planing Mill and later The Spaghetti Warehouse, which was purchased by TM Montante Development in 2012.  The property is currently undergoing renovations, which was made possible by the recent approval of tax incentives by the Erie County Industrial Development Agency for completion of the project.

“We have a long-standing working relationship with C&S, so we were excited for the opportunity to provide them with a unique location to aid the expansion of their operations in Buffalo.  The tenancy at The Planing Mill further strengthens our partnership and we are looking forward to this new phase of our relationship,” remarked Timothy Vaeth, president, TM Montante Development.

For C&S, the move was prompted by the significant growth of the firm’s Buffalo location.

“Our current offices are overcrowded,” said Tim Hughes, managing principal of the Buffalo branch of C&S Companies. “We feel that moving our operations to a national landmark, such as The Planing Mill, demonstrates our commitment to further encourage responsible redevelopment in the City of Buffalo, as well as our commitment to the Western New York community.  Locating in a sustainable, highly energy efficient building echoes our corporate philosophy and is completely in tune with how we approach our business.”

C&S will be the largest commercial tenant within the multi-use building, which will also include 22 apartments.  The adaptive re-use project will preserve the historic qualities of the property, while using cutting-edge clean energy technology to power both commercial and residential tenants.  TM Montante Development will seek LEED certification for the building.  Plans to work with sister company Montante Solar to install solar panels onsite are underway.
