I admit it. I’m a big fan of ‘Salvation Armani’. Every once in a while I find myself digging through racks and racks of clothes, in order to find that ‘one’ fantastic retro blazer, or maybe a vintage dress shirt. It’s the thrill of the hunt, not knowing if I will even find single thing… until that one article of clothing appears and suddenly an outfit emerges.
To take the art of thrift shopping even further, Salvation Army is hosting an event where amateur and pro fashion designers are asked to create a reconstructed outfit out of recycled clothing found at one of their stores. Once the outfits are complete, the designers will then flaunt their re-purposed creations in a fashion show hosted at The Hotel @ The Lafayette. “[It’s] the perfect setting for this re-styling, re-purposing LIVE Fashion show; it’s home to an entire facility that has undergone a recycling transformation,” said AnnMarie Taft, Community Relations & Special Events Coordinator of The Salvation Army of Greater Buffalo. “This competition challenges students of fashion and any amateur fashionistas to create, re-style, transform and recycle an article or articles purchased from a Salvation Army Thrift store into a runway-ready piece of fashion.”
ReFashionista Challenge takes place at Hotel@Lafayette on Tuesday, March 4, 2014. The event begins at 5:00pm with exclusive shopping opportunities at a vendor fair, signature soups and an elaborate dessert stations, hors d’ouevres and beverages. The live show starts at 6:00pm and is judged by a panel of local fashion educators and experts. The event is emceed by Miss NY International and the hosts of CW23 Winging It morning show.
