One fun Spring ritual in Buffalo is the Broadway Market‘s kick-off to the Easter Season which is only two months away! Easter time at the Broadway Market is absolutely the most busy time of year, and even more so this Easter as we wind down 125th Anniversary of the Market.
It’s been a fantastic anniversary year, and the Market is experiencing a resurgence of community interest, and being re-energized by a plethora of special events and year round activities such as Model Train Shows, the Anniversary Gala, visits from Santa Claus, and the one-act comedy the “Kielbasa Diaries” that takes audiences on a warm hearted and humorous walk down memory lane in the Broadway Market. The Saturday before Christmas was one of the biggest shopping days since the Spring of 2013, and venders were not disappointed.
This year people from all over Western New York, the eastern United States and Canada came to Buffalo to capture a piece of their culture and partake in the Market’s many home spun traditions.
This Spring will bring even more, new and fun activities such as the Mardi Gras Parade happening at the market, so plan to come on down to the first-ever Mardi Gras Royalty masquerade parade March 1st at noon, as well as participate in the Fat Tuesday best doughnut and King Cake contest!
Even now with Christmas gone and Easter on the way, there are events to keep the Broadway Market bustling with entertainment – every first Saturday come shop at the community rummage sale, the second Saturday in February is a presentation and lecture honoring Black History Month, and the Kielbasa Diaries continues to delight audiences on February 15th (the play starts at 3:00 pm). Join us for a sweet potato demonstration Saturday February 22 at noon and learn how this holiday staple is also a wonderful and healthy year-round addition to your household menu.
On Friday, April 4th it’s the “Official Kick off of the Broadway Market Easter Season;” and on April 17th at 7:30 PM the Market will host a Kielbasa Diaries fundraiser, tickets are only $20.00. The Market will end the Easter festivities on April 21st celebrating the nationally recognized will Dingus Day where the Market will present a Dingus Day Kielbasa Tasting Contest at noon. There’s not going to be a better place to taste, observe, and enjoy the Easter season, and be entertained by a variety of artists and special activities.
All of these events are made possible with help from the Friends of the Broadway Market, a non-profit organization dedicated to sustaining preserving the life and legacy of the Broadway Market. Your support is appreciated. For more information, please call 716.913.7575.
