ART of WNY’s 7th Annual Mardi Gras Celebration

What stated off as a small Fat Tuesday celebration at Rust Belt Books, is now supersizing in 2014 due to the increased popularity of the event, along with Rust Belt moving to Grant Street and the American RepertoryTheater of WNY sprucing up its digs at Bittner Hall – 16 Linwood Avenue. The confluence of events signals that this year’s Mardi Gras celebration, to be held on a Saturday night in order to accommodate the work schedules of the crowd, will be the most energetic yet.

After six years of hosting spirited Fat Tuesday theatrical readings, with live music, beads, gumbo, rice ‘n’ beans and Bubba’s Hurricanes, ART of WNY has mastered the art of Mardis Gras. In 2014, this heated kick off of the “Second Half” of the theatrical season looks to be better than ever, with selected readings from Gumbo Ya Ya (a collection of Louisiana Folk Tales), guest appearances by local actors Christopher Standart, Gail Golden, Betsy Bittar and others, and live music in the form of Doctor Jazz and the Jazzbugs (30’s & 40’s jazz sounds), and The 47’s (electro/acoustic rockers).

If you’re looking to mix up your Mardi Gras celebration this year, with some authentic cultural spice and a few modernized and localized twists, then look no further. This event has got all of the ingredients for anyone in search of New Orleans flare other than the Fat Tuesday bar scene.
