Lafayette Wishes Happy Holidays in Students’ Languages

Looking to get into the international spirit of the holidays? Then you must take a quick look at the following video (link here). It’s an eye opener into the microcosm of the student population at Lafayette High School – a population that comes from over 30 countries, believe it or not. As a holiday greeting, the students have put together a short video that shows just how diverse the school has become, with student well-wishings in languages that represent their various countries of origin.

Lafayette students took an opportunity this to wish family and friends in Buffalo and around the world, Happy Holidays in their native languages. Students come to Lafayette High School from over 30 countries. For some, this is their first holiday season away from family and friends. Lafayette High School is incredibly diverse. Close to 70% of the student body speaks a language other than English. The school features the Buffalo Public School’s only Secondary Bilingual Program and SIFE Program (Students with Interrupted Formal Education).

The students’ origins also represent the changing face of the city, into a melting pot of cultures that is ever-present throughout the West Side and elsewhere.
