It was bound to happen. With the growing business climate on Amherst Street in Black Rock, shop and restaurant owners have announced the inaugural Amherst Street Holiday Walk.
While the businesses are busy decorating their storefronts, members of the Grant-Amherst Business Association are preparing to hang twinkling lights on the trees. There are even a couple of big surprises in store for visitors this year. “This is our first Holiday Walk,” said Sue “Frenchy” Cholewa. “We have critical mass now and can do a walk of this sort. To top it off, The Showplace Theater is offering a spectacular gift to the city by opening its doors for the event. In fact, I was just inside the old theater and it looks amazing (learn more). It’s going to be an incredible asset for our neighborhood. The theater owner is going to be showing holiday films inside on the big screen on the day of the walk, so anyone is welcome to stroll in during the event, warm up, and watch a movie. It’s an aspect that makes Black Rock completely unique. Plus, I’ll be opening the old gas station for a pop up shop on that day, to give people a look at what the future of that building has in store. The Peddler flea market at the American Legion Post will also be open during the event (learn more), even though that Saturday would have normally been a bye week. From Pure Peru to Artsphere Studio and Gallery, you can find all of the holiday happenings on the walk’s Facebook page.”
