Yesterday members of One Symphony Circle and Kleinhans Community Association (KCA) came together, along with ReTree WNY to help beautify one of the most recognizable street corners in the city and surrounding streets.
Phantom Gardeners, Allentown Gardeners, and KCA gardeners contributed to the planting effort that also saw the transition of the tree line at First Presbyterian Church (where Wadsworth meets Symphony Circle) from concrete to soil. “Daniel Culross organized the planting for Allentown,” said Krista Palgutt, President of the Kleinhans Community Association. “We had 24 trees that were put into the ground. We had 25 adult volunteers and 4 kids. The kids cleaned up litter while the adults planted. We even extended beyond Allentown to West and Hudson where we planted 7 trees to help beautify that neglected corner. The other big area we hit was Wadsworth near 1st Presbyterian. There was concrete in the tree line, up until 9am in the morning. Commissioner Steve Stepniak was there personally to ensure that the concrete was removed so we could plant already ordered trees. The new tree line along Wadsworth will help make it a complete street and contribute to slower traffic.”
