A beach you say? That’s because we have the 7th annual Polar Plunge to look forward to.
As an aside, I find it interesting that nearly all of the events that I have covered as of late were founded close to five years ago, give or take a couple of years. Does that signal that there must have been a positive disturbance in Buffalo’s force around that time? That is certainly when much of energy that we are seeing today began to solidify after a few years of lighting the spark under this city’s belly.
Anyways, another fun-filled Buffalo event that has taken advantage of our city’s cool winter weather is the much anticipated Polar Plunge, where teams get together to jump in the icy waters of Lake Erie in order to raise money for the Special Olympics! Join your friends on this chilly romp at Woodlawn Beach on December 7, 2013 , as you break out the swim trunks and bikinis… or whatever else you want to wear when you take the plunge. Last year over 1200 participants took to the waters, and this year organizers are anticipating over 1500!
Each person and each group helps to raise funds in order to ensure that athletes in the Special Olympics are able to compete free of charge. NY State has over 62,000 athletes alone, and also has the largest Special Olympics program in the country. That means that monetary support for year ’round efforts is essential so that everyone has a fair shake. That’s where you come in.
Just remember, check in is at 11am. The plunge is at 2pm.
If you are looking to join in on the fun, you can still do so. Go to this website and you can find all of the info to get involved as a team or as an individual (join an existing team). Click ‘register here’ and you will be on your way.
