It’s time once again, to hop on your bike for a good cause. On November 16, 2013, riders will take to the streets en masse in order to collect food for Food not Bombs. Organized by GO Bike Buffalo, the event is branded part bike ride, part food drive, part scavenger hunt.
In order to participate, each rider is given a grocery list with between $10-$15 worth of food items on it, which they must head out to procure. In the end, the riders, along with their groceries, return to the GO Bike Buffalo workshop where they deliver their spoils so that Food not Bombs can hand them over them to those in need.
This is not a race… rather it is a mission revolving around a good deed for the holidays. It’s a great way to meet other cyclists, stay out on the road, and make sure that Food not Bombs is able to accomplish its goals. Last year riders gathered 350 pounds of food… let’s see if we can squash that number this year!
*Trophies/Prizes will be awarded and refreshments will be had at the after party at the GObike workshop (98 Colvin Ave) at 3pm. The after party is free for riders, but GO Bike asks that non-riders bring 4 non perishable food items to donate or 5 bucks. Bring a bike (any bike will do), a bag, a lock, a helmet and about $10-15 to buy food. Families and teams along with individual riders are encouraged to enter.
