URS Corporation is relocating its local office from the Medical Campus to space in HealthNow’s headquarters on W. Genesee Street behind City Hall. URS has been asked by its current landlord, The University at Buffalo, to vacant its current offices in the UB Downtown Gateway located at 77 Goodell Street. UB intends to use the current URS space for medical campus purposes and tenancies.
URS Corp. agreed in late-2001 to move into the Trico Building which was to be renovated into a mix of office and residential space by the late Stephen McGarvey. McGarvey’s financial problems delayed the ambitious reconstruction project. Instead, URS took alternative space in the M. Wile building that McGarvey had successfully renovated at 77 Goodell Street. URS moved its roughly 200 local employees from 282 Delaware Avenue in 2004 taking 55,000 sq.ft. of space in the building then known as Century Centre II.
UB purchased 77 Goodell Street in 2007 and retained URS as a tenant. Offices in the UB Downtown Gateway include Millard Fillmore College’s administrative offices, the UB Regional Institute, UBMD, and UB’s Office of Economic Engagement Development. The Educational Opportunity Center recently moved into its new facility fronting Ellicott Street that is connected to the building.
URS will be subleasing approximately 28,000 sq. ft. of space from HealthNow.
