By Marika Woods-Frankenstein:
The award winning singer, songwriter and all around Delta Blues-belting Diva Candye Kane has a spirit like the blow-up children’s toy that you knock down but it immediately pops back up. Most of us would have succumbed to the travails that were tossed her way; a tumultuous childhood, teen pregnancy, followed by a short stint as a pin-up girl. Not a chance for this sassy survivor! Candye has defied the odds by carving out a thriving career as a singer/songwriter who is in demand and on tour worldwide for over 250 shows annually.
Her strong and clear voice conveys her own triumphs through pain while paying homage to the likes of Bessie Smith, Etta James, and Big Mama Thornton. As Candye lives with the day to day trials of living through a second bout of pancreatic cancer, she helps inspire others will her work in the LGBT community and her own philanthropic organization United by Music which provides performance opportunities for musicians with developmental differences.
Candye’s band is comprised of drummer, Kurt Kalker, bassist Kennan Shaw, and guitar slinging, songwriting collaborator and producer, Laura Chavez. The talented Ms. Chavez has helped enhance the haunting Delta Blues that is laced throughout Candye’s last three CDs, Superhero, Sister Vagabond and the latest critically acclaimed CD ” Coming Out Swingin’ . Laura is receiving well deserved accolades for her guitar virtuosity and she currently on the cover of Blues Blast Magazine. http://www.thebluesblast.com/bbnow.htm
