If you’ve thought about joining in on the Startup Weekend Buffalo movement, then the time is now. As this city starts to reawaken, more and more people are thinking about starting businesses here, and ideas are being thrown against the walls in order to see what’s a good fit. Startup Weekend Buffalo is designed to bring budding entrepreneurs together to test the waters of the city’s business climate (and beyond). The sessions give people with business concepts the ability to talk to others, deliver presentations, and get feedback that could be instrumental in the realms of incubating and ultimately opening in this market. To get a better idea as to what Startup Weekend Buffalo is all about, check out this helpful video:
“The first two Startup Weekend Buffalo events far exceeded our expectations, and we have several companies from those two events still moving forward with their businesses,” says Startup Weekend Buffalo Co-Organizer Jon Spitz. “For this third event, our goal is to engage a wider audience, engaging a wider geographic reach across Upstate and over the border into Southern Ontario and up to Toronto. Additionally, we are looking to engage aspiring entrepreneurs from across the spectrum of business services, not just focused on technology. This includes those with experience in marketing and communications, graphic design, finance, and operations. To reinforce this, we have selected mentors in these fields to help guide our teams to think about their business plans from a 360-degree viewpoint.
Further, our efforts to broaden our reach can be seen with the talent and expertise selected for our mentors and judges*. For the first time in our event’s history, Startup Weekend Buffalo is bringing in entrepreneurs from Los Angeles and Toronto to coach and judge our contestants’ business plans. These are terrific outside resources for any entrepreneur to get in front of.”
*The October 2013 event brings together once again a select panel of judges who offer intensive knowledge, skill, and experience in a variety of fields that prove to be imperative to startup success. The judges include:
John Seman – President and CEO of Launch NY
Aron Solomon – global strategist, entrepreneur, advisor, and Startup Weekend Buffalo’s first judge from Toronto
Diane McMahon – corporate attorney with extensive experience in entrepreneurial enterprises
Brigid Doherty – Executive Director and Secretary of the James H. Cummings Foundation
Adrian Roselli – Vice President and Co-Founder of Algonquin Studios
