The six week long National Garden Festival enters its final weekend with the Black Rock & Riverside Tour of Gardens on Saturday from 10 am until 4 pm, the Starry Night Garden Tour from 8 pm until 10 pm, and the Beyond Flowers Tour Saturday mid-day.
The Black Rock & Riverside Tour of Gardens is free and self-guided. You can pick up a map for the over 60 gardens open for viewing at St. Mark’s/All Saint Church, 311 Ontario Street, the Buffalo Religious Arts Center at 157 East Street, or download here. There are docent-led tours of Riverside Park available for $10 per person.
Twenty-five gardens in Black Rock and Riverside will be open Saturday evening for a Starry Night Tour from 8 pm until 10 pm.
Also on Saturday there is a motor coach tour of seven green developments throughout the city. Unfortunately the Beyond Flowers Tour is sold out. Projects on the tour are MAP’s tilapia farm and compost operation and a playground and community gardens constructed by PUSH on the west side. The tour will also visit Wilkeson Pointe park on the outer harbor, Mutual Riverfront Park on Hamburg Street, community gardens on the roof of the Broadway Market parking garage, the groundbreaking Urban Habitat Project at the Central Terminal (photo below), and the newly-installed bioswale at the Trico parking lot on the Buffalo Niagara Medical Campus.
