Seeing progress underway at Broderick Park (foot of West Ferry and the Niagara River) is music to my ears. Actually, when the park is complete, there will be plenty of musical performances (fingers crossed) taking place on a regular basis (unlike the underutilized concert grounds at LaSalle Park. As you can plainly see, the amphitheater is shaping up nicely. What an inspirational place to see a performance, with the sun setting and the backdrop of the Niagara River’s rushing water?
Hopefully with all of these new advancements (see background) this park will begin to attract people that have never ventured down here before. As you can see in the Master Plan (click to enlarge) there are plenty of other public amenities on the way, which will only add to the buzz that Broderick will one day create. To think that this underutilized park has sat unattended for so long, with disinvestment that attracted illicit activities, garbage, and vandalism… I would hope that once this park is completed The City will pay more attention to it so that it does not creep back into disrepair.
Overhead cameras pointed directly at the parking lot (soon to be porous asphalt) would probably go a long way at regulating the ne’er-do-wells that tend to be attracted to unsupervised waterfront parks.
