Living in a city like Buffalo, filled with so much history and heritage, there is an ethnic event around every corner. Our neighborhoods are filled with parties, celebrations, and festivals, many of which have not been known to the mainstream audience until the advent of social media. These days we can call upon a group of friends to meet up at myriad activities without planning too far ahead.
Coming up on August 16, 17 and 18 is the 34th annual Dożynki Polish Harvest Festival at Corpus Christi Church in Buffalo, New York. For those that have become accustomed to searching out these types of festivals (Dyngus Day being one of the ones that has become synonymous with Polish heritage), the Dożynki Polish Harvest Festival is another not-to-be-missed event.
I was recently made aware that this is the largest festival in East Buffalo’s Historic Polonia. One of the highlights of the event is the 6th Annual Buffalo’s Best Pierogi Contest on Saturday, August 17 at 4:30pm.
Throughout the weekend there are all sorts of live music performances, and heritage vendors to scope out… along with plenty of food and drink… culminating with the Harvest Mass on Sunday, August 19 as the celebration continues once again at 11:30am featuring polka and folk music. It’s time to get out and join your friends for some good old fashioned fun!
2013 Miss Dożynki is Amelia Lesniak
The festival opens on Friday, August 16 at 5:30 and closes on Sunday, August 18 at 7pm. See Facebook
